After improving my digestion on my own through a regular yoga practice, experimenting with herbs and dietary modification I was diagnosed with low thyroid. (I now understand the two are not unrelated, low thyroid often leads to sluggish digestion which can lead to all kinds of digestive issues.) The Naturopath put me on desiccated thyroid hormone. However, he didn't tell me once you start you must likely have to stay on for the rest of your life. The MD also said I needed thyroid hormone but preferred the synthetic version. I felt I was too young to take any medication for the rest of my life so I turned to Chinese Medicine to see if it could help. When Dr. Deng reviewed my history he explained we needed to improve my digestion before we could move on to the thyroid. I went for regular acupuncture treatments and took various chinese herbs including Irritease, Curing Pills, Shin Ling Bai Zu Pian, and American Ginseng (for more energy). In the beginning I went once week or maybe once every two weeks and then as I improved once every three or four weeks until I was doing so well I returned about four times a year for maintenance. I thought the combination of Curing Pills and Shin Ling Bai Zu Pian worked best for me and over time I learned to modify the dose depending on how well I as doing. The symptoms of gas, bloating, alternating diarrhea and constipation, mucous and bleeding are gone. And, overall I feel much better. If I have an occasional flare up, which is rare and either stress or diet related, I know just what to do to quickly get it under control. I can't thank Dr. Deng enough for both his knowledge and compassion.
